Frontiers in Physiology Research Day 2018

On Friday May 4th, 2018, the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto celebrated the 38th annual Frontiers in Physiology (or “FIP”) research day. This day brings together the members of all four research platforms in the department in order to share the outstanding work of our trainees. This year, FIP welcomed Dr. Mona Nemer as the Keynote Speaker. Dr. Nemer is an esteemed cardiac researcher and Canada’s Chief Science Advisor.

In addition to the tremendous work presented by our lab members at this year’s FIP, we are also extremely proud to mention that our very own Elizabeth Eng was selected as one of four recipients of the Outstanding Poster award. Congratulations, Liz!

The projects that were presented this year are as follows:

Antenatal Synthetic Glucocorticoid Exposure Modified Gene Expression at the Post-Natal Blood-Testes Barrier (Elizabeth Eng – Poster presentation and recipient of the FIP Outstanding Poster award)

Differential DNA Methylation Signatures Following Prenatal Exposure to Single-Course Antenatal Glucocorticoids in Humans and Guinea Pigs (Bona Kim – Poster presentation)

Antenatal Glucocorticoid Treatment Disrupts the Maternal and Fetal Methionine Cycle (Alexandros Mouratidis – Poster presentation)

Effects of Antenatal Synthetic Glucocorticoid Exposure on Oxidative Stress in the Fetal Liver and Placenta (Susmita Sarkar – Poster presentation)

The Effects of Viral Mimics on Pro-Inflammatory Response Genes Expression in Astrocytes (Andrada Naghi – Poster Presentation)
